Why bullet points are your highest-leverage copy element
When a shopper lands on your Bol.com listing, they don't read — they scan. Eye-tracking studies on e-commerce product pages consistently show the same pattern: shoppers jump straight from the product image to the bullet points (called eigenschappen in the Bol.com seller interface), skip the description, and then decide whether to add to cart.
That makes bullet points the single most important copy you'll write for any listing. Yet most sellers use them to list technical specifications that answer questions nobody asked.
The mistake 90% of sellers make
Here's a typical bullet point from a random kitchen product:
Materiaal: RVS 18/8 kwaliteitsstaal
And here's the question the customer actually has:
"Will this thing fall apart after three months?"
The seller answered a different question. The customer never got the reassurance they needed.
Feature vs. benefit is the oldest rule in copywriting — and it's broken constantly on Bol.com.
The 5-Point Formula
Structure each bullet point as: [Benefit] — [Feature that delivers it]
| Position | What it solves | Example | |---|---|---| | 1 | Biggest purchase objection | "Geen loszittende scharnieren — versterkt aluminium frame houdt jaren mee" | | 2 | Primary use case | "Voor thuis én kantoor — dimbaar van 10% tot 100%" | | 3 | Competitive differentiator | "Inclusief USB-C kabel — hoeft u niets extra te kopen" | | 4 | Trust / risk reversal | "2 jaar garantie — wij lossen het op, geen vragen gesteld" | | 5 | Secondary audience or bonus | "Ook ideaal als cadeau — in stijlvolle geschenkdoos geleverd" |
This order matters. The first bullet has to resolve the single biggest reason someone won't buy. Everything else is secondary.
The length rule
Bol.com displays bullet points in a truncated format — roughly 100–120 characters before adding an ellipsis on mobile. Write to that limit.
Too long:
Ons product is gemaakt van hoogwaardig roestvrij staal dat bestand is tegen de dagelijkse gebruiksomstandigheden in uw keuken
Right length:
Roestvrij staal — bestand tegen dagelijks gebruik, vaatwasserbestendig
Short sentences also appear more confident. Long bullets read like a nervous seller trying to over-explain.
Using AI to find your best bullet points
The fastest way to identify which objections and benefits matter most in your category is competitor review mining. Analyze 50–100 reviews of your top 3 competitors and look for:
- Repeat complaints (these become your reassurance bullets)
- Repeat compliments (these become your USP bullets)
- Specific use cases people mention (these become your audience bullets)
Lijstify's AI does this automatically — it reads hundreds of competitor reviews and surfaces the exact language customers use when they're happy (or not) with products like yours. You paste the keywords into bullets written in the customer's own vocabulary, which increases both ranking relevance and conversion.
A before/after example
Product: LED Bureaulamp
Before (features only):
- 10W LED lamp
- 3 kleurtemperaturen
- Dimbare helderheid
- USB-poort
- Energiezuinig
After (benefit-led):
- Geen vermoeide ogen — oogvriendelijk licht elimineert flikkeringen
- Werkt voor alles — koelwit voor focuswerk, warm licht voor 's avonds
- Precies zo helder als jij wilt — 10 dimstanden via aanraakknop
- Laad je telefoon terwijl je werkt — ingebouwde USB-A uitgang
- 2 jaar garantie — gewoon inzenden, wij sturen direct een nieuwe
The second version answers real customer questions. The first version answers questions only the product engineer would ask.
